How long have you been in real estate?
I joined RE/MAX way back in 2012 and I have never looked back.
What did you do before joining RE/MAX Central?
Immediately before joining RE/MAX I was involved in selling advertising which was great but I was making more money for my employer than I was making for myself. When I understood how real estate agents works, I jumped right in.
How difficult is it to sell real estate?
Customers buy real estate to have a roof on their heads and they know that it is also a long term investment. It is not a capricious product or an expense so customers are always very willing to purchase.
What do you enjoy most about being a real estate agent?
There are too many things to mention, mostly, I guess is the fact that I set my own schedule and working harder and smarter delivers a direct result to my income. Working hand in hand with my team is also a very enjoyable experience. Contrary to what people think about real estate agents, when you form part of a good team you find that every other member has your back just as much as you have theirs.
How do you balance out your two roles, that of team leader/manager and sales associate
My first priority is my team, but my style is to impart my knowledge to my agents. In this way my team is able to contend with most situations without my direct assistance. Having said that, my desk is right there with them and we are in discussion on a face to face basis for most of the day. Being an associate too ensures that I am not detached from the issues that they are facing, in fact I would be facing them myself. From there on it is simply a matter of sharing my solutions with them so that they too can overcome.
You are also the mother of a teenager, how have you coped with fulfilling both roles whilst your daughter was younger?
Since real estate agents sets their own schedule it was just a matter of setting time in my calendar to ensure that I am available for her too. As I block time for my customers I also block time for my daughter. As a real estate agent, nobody is questioning how I utilise my time.
What advice would you give someone who is contemplating a career as a real estate agent?
It is a very fulfilling career, if you are diligent, self disciplined and have people skills then it will be a good career for you. Be prepared to work hard at first to gain experience quickly and make sure that you are working in the right team, those around you will greatly influence your happiness and therefore your success.
